ABOUT HABIO

The Hellenic Association of Biogas Producers – HABIO was established in June 2018 with the aim of supporting the sustainable development of the sector and promoting biogas as an innovative source of renewable energy that can make a significant contribution to Greece’s energy transition.

Biogas:
Affordable, sustainable, and secure energy for Europe

HABIO’s objective is to promote the production and use of renewable gases across Greece, while highlighting the benefits they can offer.

Objectives

HABIO’s objective is to promote the production and use of renewable gases -biogas, biomethane and green hydrogen across Greece, and to highlight the benefits that biogas production can offer in addressing one of today’s most critical environmental challenges: waste generation.
Biogas production enables the conversion of waste streams and materials of negative value into high-value products, such as renewable energy and natural fertiliser for agriculture, thereby contributing to social and economic development.

These objectives are pursued through coordinated advocacy and awareness-raising activities, representation in international and national organisations, participation in European programmes, as well as the preparation of studies and the conduct of research related to HABIO’s areas of activity.

More specifically, through its activities, the Association seeks to promote practices related to:

  • Anaerobic digestion of all types of renewable organic matter for the sustainable production of biogas and fertiliser.
  • Gasification of all types of organic matter for the sustainable production of gaseous fuels.
  • Combined heat and power generation using renewable gases and liquids, including biogas and bioliquids.
  • The use of biogas, biomethane, fertilisers and other products derived from anaerobic digestion and gasification.
  • Research, design, construction and operation of biogas, biomethane and fertiliser production facilities.
