ABOUT HABIO
The Hellenic Association of Biogas Producers was founded in 2018 with the aim of strengthening sustainable development of the biogas sector and promoting biogas as an innovative source of renewable energy that can significantly contribute to Greece’s energy transition.
Biogas: an innovative source of renewable energy that can significantly contribute to Europe’s energy transition
The aim of HABIO is to promote the production and use of renewable gases in Greece,
as well as to highlight the benefits of biogas production!
Our Aim
The aim of HABIO is to promote the production and use of renewable gases (biogas-biomethane and green hydrogen) in Greece, as well as to highlight the benefits biogas production can offer in one of the most pressing environmental challenges: waste management. The biogas sector can have a significant contribution towards social and economic development by transforming waste into products of increased value such as renewable energy and natural fertilizer for agriculture.
Our objectives are achieved through coordinated advocacy and information actions, representation in national and international organizations, participation in European programs as well as through preparation of studies and conducting research related to the aims of HABIO.
Through its activity, HABIO aims to promote:
- Anaerobic digestion practices of all kinds of renewable organic matter to produce biogas and fertilizer in a sustainable way.
- Gasification of all kinds of organic matter to produce renewable gas fuels in a sustainable way.
- Cogeneration of electricity and heat using renewable gases and liquids (biogas and bioliquids)
- Use of biogas, biomethane, fertilizers and other products derived from anaerobic digestion and gasification.
- Research, design, construction, and operation of biogas, biomethane and fertilizer facilities.
